True Blue Bay Resort – Hotel Review

Welcome to True Blue Bay Resort in Grenada, where the Caribbean’s tranquil blues blend seamlessly with island charm!  Having lived next door during my veterinary school days, this spot holds a special place in my heart. Now boasting an impressive four pools, the resort has certainly upped its game since my last visit. Nestled close to picturesque beaches and conveniently situated near the university, True Blue Bay offers not just a stay but an immersive island experience. Join me on this virtual journey as we explore the serenity, comfort, and delightful offerings that make True Blue Bay a true Caribbean gem!

Location And How To Get There

Finding your way to the picturesque True Blue Bay Resort in Grenada is a breeze, no matter where you’re travelling from. Serving as Grenada’s primary gateway, the Maurice Bishop International Airport offers easy access from various parts of the world, including direct flights from North America and Europe.

Upon touchdown at Maurice Bishop International Airport, you’re a mere 10-minute drive away from True Blue Bay Resort. Taxis and shuttle services are readily available at the airport, ensuring a smooth and swift transition from air to paradise. If you’re feeling more adventurous there are a number of car rental companies right outside the airport, which really does give you more flexibility to explore the island in your own time.

Rooms and Villas

During my stay at True Blue Bay Resort, I had the pleasure of experiencing two distinct room types, each offering its unique allure. Firstly, the two-bedroom villas, a spacious haven spanning two stories, stood out with their separate entrances for each bedroom—an ideal arrangement for families or couples seeking privacy. The lower level, akin to a labyrinth of separate entrances, hosts private ensuites, flat-screen TVs in each bedroom, and ample storage. Ascend the staircase to the second floor, and you’re greeted by a generously sized living/dining area featuring a fully equipped kitchen, perfect for culinary enthusiasts. Beyond the living space lies a quaint walled courtyard with a private pool and a sprawling covered balcony offering splendid vistas of the pool and lagoon.

Transitioning to the Cocoa Pod Suites, a more compact yet cozy option, these studios, though smaller in scale, cater perfectly to shorter stays. Conveniently located by one of the resort’s many pools, these suites boast a thoughtfully designed space with a well-appointed kitchenette, modern bathrooms, and a comfortable living area. Each suite opens up to a terrace, treating guests to views of the dazzling evening spectacle at the lap pool. These elegantly decorated suites provide a snug retreat, perfect for a brief and comfortable stay.

Food and Drink

True Blue Bay Resort boasts a culinary gem right on its premises – the ever-charming Dodgy Dock. This onsite restaurant is more than just a place to grab a bite; it’s a lively hub open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily, with the added bonus of hosting themed nights that have become a tradition since my island-living days. One standout is Street Food Wednesday, a feast for the senses with a plethora of vendors dishing out everything from jerk chicken to the island’s signature oildown and fresh pasta. It’s like a culinary carnival that draws in a diverse crowd – locals, visitors, and students alike. The atmosphere is electric, and to amp it up, live entertainment takes center stage. During my stay, we were serenaded by the fantastic Solid The Band, who, fun fact, also rocked the tunes at my 2019 wedding on Grand Anse Beach.

Navigating the delectable offerings is a breeze with the ticket system – simply purchase them by reception and use them to indulge in the culinary delights, no fumbling through different notes required. And trust me, you’ll want to reserve a table because this place gets buzzing!

Fiesta Friday follows with a Mexican fiesta, and Saturdays transform into a BBQ haven. Now, let’s talk breakfast – a sprawling buffet extravaganza awaits, featuring everything from fresh fruits to an impressive hot buffet station with bacon, sausages, eggs, and the works. The picturesque deck overlooking the lagoon sets the perfect scene for a morning feast.

Quenching your thirst is a delightful experience with two bars on the scene. The central Dodgy Dock bar offers a prime view of the bay, and the newer addition, the Rum Bar, is a tropical paradise by the beach pool. Complete with Instagram-worthy swing seats and a cocktail menu designed to bring pure joy, it’s the perfect spot to sip, swing, and savor the moment.

Facilities

The facilities at True Blue Bay Resort have really expanded since I was living on the island, and they now offer an expansive yoga deck overlooking the grounds and the bay below – of which there are multiple yoga and fitness classes run throughout the week. Check out the schedule from reception or check out Sankalpa Yoga Instagram’s page. There is also a compact gym that is under the yoga deck, offering a number of machines.

There are now four pools at the resort, a large expansive beach pool which is ideally situated next to the Rum Bar and has a number of loungers surrounding the pool area. There is also a lap pool, a cocoa pods pool where the iconic Grenada sign is located (be sure to grab a picture here!) and a quiet pool by the bay view rooms, meaning you will never have to fight for a sunbed!

At the entrance to True Blue Bay resort there is also a “House of Chocolate” bakery/store that offers so many delectable chocolate themed goods, as well as some other local items from around the island such as nutmeg syrup. They have a vast assortment of freshly baked pastries and chocolate goods, and its worth just going in for the smell!

There is also a boutique shop, located between Dodgy Dock and reception which has all the clothing and boutique items you may need!

If you are into diving, Aquanauts has a permanent location onsite and offers a multitude of different diving excursions directly from the hotel – they have their own dock and boats onsite which make it incredibly convenient to kick off your diving adventures!

There are also a number of different water sports equipment available for use for guests including Hobie cats, kayaks and stand up paddle boards.

Activities

As previously mentioned, there are a number of different experiences that can be had right onsite to True Blue Bay – from the onsite diving company (Aquanauts) to the various water sports options (kayaks, stand up paddle boards, Hobie cats) , the four pools and an extensive range of classes hosted at the yoga deck, if you never left the resort you would have plenty to fill your day with!

The resort can help arrange reliable transportation if you do decide to venture out and visit the world famous Grand Anse Beach or Grand Etang National forest. If you do visit the beach, plan on having lunch at Umbrellas Beach Bar (you will not regret it).

Service

Overall, service was on par with other Caribbean hotels of the same rating (3 stars). The check in process was not as seamless as I had experienced in the past, but the bar and restaurant staff more than made up for any minor inconvenience.

The dedication of individuals like Akim at the bar and the diligent restaurant team shone through, ensuring pleasant moments during our stay. I was pleasantly surprised to see friendly and familiar faces from my university days.

Brent at reception displayed professionalism and courtesy, mitigating any inconveniences encountered during check-in. Kudos also to Mia and David from the social media team, whose attentive contributions added a layer of warmth to our overall experience. I did enjoy my stay.
