Location and How To Get There

Located in the heart of Union Island, Hotel Tenuta Chatham Bay is a hop, skip, and a jump away from the epitome of Caribbean paradise. The adventure typically begins from Saint Vincent International Airport which is frequented by a number of daily international flights. From Saint Vincent, you have a couple of choices to reach Union Island – using one of the many scheduled ferries or chartering a small plane to Union Island. There is also the option to fly into Barbados and then take a plane directly to Union Island through Mustique Airways. 

As you land on Union Island, Tenuta Chatham Bay stands ready to facilitate your transition. The hotel arranges seamless transfers, such as a water taxi from Clifton’s main pier directly to the hotel’s dock, or a land transfer by taxi and ATV for the last part of the journey down the rocky hill. 

Check in process

Arriving at Tenuta Chatham Bay on Union Island was a seamless and welcoming experience from start to finish. Following a swift ferry ride from St. Vincent, we were met at the pier in Union Island and escorted to a waiting water taxi for a brief, scenic 20-minute journey to the hotel. Despite the darkness, our captain navigated the waters expertly, ensuring a smooth arrival. Welcoming us upon arrival, the attentive staff eagerly assisted with our luggage and extended a warm introduction to the hotel. Accompanied by another couple, we opted to settle in at the bar, sipping on a refreshing rum punch while placing our dinner orders. In no time, the delightful Iwona graciously guided us to our stunning bungalow. Her thorough tour highlighted all the amenities while another staff member efficiently brought up our luggage, ensuring a comfortable and effortless transition into our accommodations.

This limited number ensures an intimate, personalised experience with unparalleled service. Whether you opt for the beachfront units, mere steps from the ocean’s edge, or the slightly elevated hillside bungalows offering breathtaking vistas, each one promises its own unique charm. Inside, these havens boast a king-sized bed, large living quarters, air conditioning for comfort, a spacious wrap-around deck for soaking in the views, and convenient tea and coffee-making facilities. The modern bathrooms exude elegance with double vanity sinks, luxurious toiletries, and ample storage space, all adding to the sense of indulgence and relaxation. The thoughtful details in these accommodations truly elevate the stay to an unforgettable level of comfort and luxury.

Food and Drink

Tenuta Chatham Bay is a foodie’s paradise, offering a delightful array of dining options to suit every palate. Their full-service bar and restaurant, open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, boasts an extensive menu that caters to diverse tastes. As someone with a gluten-free diet, I was pleasantly surprised by the accommodating options available. The breakfast spread was impressive, featuring everything from classic French toast and pancakes to hearty oat plantain porridge and an assortment of egg dishes. The lunch and dinner menus continued the culinary adventure, showcasing a remarkable variety that included a wood-fired pizza oven. Although I couldn’t indulge in the pizzas, my friend vouched for their fantastic taste! The fully stocked bar is a treasure trove for cocktail enthusiasts, offering an extensive selection of liquors. The rum punch, in particular, was an absolute standout, delivering a refreshing and delightful experience. Whether you’re seeking a hearty meal, a gluten-free option, or a perfectly crafted cocktail, Tenuta Chatham Bay delivers a delectable culinary journey.

Facilities 

Tenuta Chatham Bay Hotel offers a delightful blend of relaxation and indulgence with its range of amenities. The focal point is the inviting infinity pool strategically positioned between the restaurant and the bar, ensuring you’re never too far from your favorite cocktail or snack. The full-service restaurant is a culinary haven open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, boasting a unique addition—a pizza oven. Although I missed it during my stay, the property now features a boutique store supporting local artisans, allowing guests to bring back souvenirs. The spa at Tenuta Chatham Bay offers a serene escape, providing the option to book a massage on the beach or in the comfort of your bungalow. For the more adventurous, complimentary bicycles, kayaks, and stand-up paddleboards are readily available, encouraging exploration of the island’s natural beauty.

Activities 

Tenuta Chatham Bay provides an array of curated activities for guests seeking a blend of leisure and adventure. Whether you’re diving into the gentle waves with our non-motorized water sports or finding your Zen at the spa and pool, there’s a niche for every kind of adventurer. 

Beyond the serene confines of the resort, the dedicated staff are always on hand to give recommendations for various activities on the island. Among the recommended pursuits is the 20-minute hike to the lookout point—an invigorating ascent rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views. It’s pertinent to note that due to the hotel’s unique location, taxis cannot access the property. However, the staff ensures seamless transportation by coordinating taxi services to meet guests at the top road or arranging UTV/mule rides. Along the scenic beachfront, a leisurely stroll reveals charming beach bars and restaurants, ideal for an evening indulgence in refreshing beverages and fresh seafood, with most establishments opening in the afternoon.

Service 

During my stay at Tenuta Chatham Bay, the service was nothing short of exceptional, starting even before I set foot on the island. Their stellar communication via email made organising activities and coordinating our pickup effortless. From the moment we stepped off the boat on our first night, we were embraced like old friends, and that warmth persisted throughout our stay. The staff’s friendliness and genuine helpfulness were remarkable; there was never a request too big or small. Their eagerness to recommend island activities and their nightly inquiries about plans for the following day showcased their dedication. By the end of my time there, bidding farewell to the staff felt like saying goodbye to family. Their hospitality truly made the stay unforgettable.
