Right in the heart of the bustling Piertermaai district in Curacao lies Wynwood hotel, a boutique hotel with a vibe just as vibrant as the colourful exterior. Within walking distance to a plethora of bars and restaurants and ahead of the trends with virtual hotel keys, Wynwood Boutique Hotel is not only conveniently located but also offers a modern and seamless guest experience. It’s the perfect place to stay for those looking to explore the vibrant neighbourhood while enjoying the comforts of innovative hospitality.
Location and How To Get Here
Curacao, a Dutch island located in the Southern Caribbean sits below the Hurricane belt and is part of the ABC islands. Curacao’s main international airport, while not nearly as busy as its sister island Aruba, is frequented by many flights from the United States, Europe (namely through Holland), Latin America and many other Caribbean islands.

Once on the island, Wynwood Hotel is a short 15 minute drive from the airport. You can choose to take a taxi or rent a car, the latter of which is favourable if you would like the freedom of exploring the island at your own pace. Driving is relatively easy on the island, with just a bit of care needed once you get into Willemstad where there are a lot of one way streets. I recommend downloading either offline Google maps or using a free navigation app like Maps.me ahead of time so you don’t get lost in a one-way-street-maze!
Check In Process
A few days before my arrival I was contacted through email and WhatsApp with check in instructions from the front desk. The hotel utilises virtual keys through use of a QR code that is customised for each guest which was such a neat feature that was extremely well received by me (- if you have travelled with me in the past you know that I am notorious for losing room keys!). The instructions were very detailed, explaining accurately how to use the QR scanners and where exactly our room was located should no one be at reception when we arrived.

We had arrived during King’s Day celebrations, and if you are not familiar with this, it’s a Dutch tradition celebrated with immense enthusiasm in Curacao. The entire island transforms into a massive party, with vibrant street parades, live music, and locals adorned in orange, the colour of the Dutch royal family. It’s a festive atmosphere unlike any other, and while we were so excited to join in the festivities, we had not anticipated just how challenging it would be to navigate through the crowds and road closures with our suitcases. However, with a bit of creativity and the help of friendly locals, we managed to make our way to the hotel without much hassle. Armed with our QR code instructions we entered the hotel grounds through the gate where we met one of the staff who helped us to our room upstairs and gave us a brief tour of the room functionalities. The TV screens in the room were packed with useful information, covering everything from housekeeping queries to ordering drinks by the pool and getting recommendations for local restaurants in the area.
Rooms
We were fortunate enough to stay in one of the Deluxe Kings which offered a spacious room, or eclectically adorned with thoughtful pieces. There was a mini refrigerator which included complimentary drinks if booked directly through the hotel (two beers, two coca colas, two waters and two pringles) along with a coffee machine that took coffee and tea pods. I was genuinely impressed to find USB outlets next to the bed, alongside USA and European sockets in the bedrooms. It’s the little conveniences that really make a difference! We had a wonderful balcony that opened out onto the street, perfect for people watching or like we did, enjoy the festivities from Kings Day that were happening right below! There is a table and a couple of chairs on the balcony.

The bathroom is essentially a huge wet room and had a modern shower, toilet and vanity, along with all the fun details that the bedroom had. There are various different rooms throughout the property, some opening up unto the cute courtyard in the back, and some like ours, with prime people-watching balconies overlooking the street. They also have one and two bedroom apartments that come with full kitchens which would be a great fit for extended stays or those travelling in groups.

Food and Drink
Now although Wynwood Hotel does not offer breakfast service, they do offer a variety of breakfast recommendations from quirky coffee carts to stylish waterfront cafes, all within walking distance.

Another awesome perk of the hotel is the option to order a range of drinks using the QR codes scattered around the premises, and have them delivered straight to your room or poolside. We gave it a shot one afternoon, and it was such a cool experience! Just scan the QR code, pick what you fancy—whether it’s a bottle of wine, a bucket of beers, or some coffee pods—and they’ll bring it right to you. Plus, it’s super convenient since they add it to your bill, so you settle up when you check out. Easy peasy!
Facilities
Right in the heart of the property, there’s this charming private courtyard that’s just too cute for words. Tucked away from the street, it’s a delightful oasis with a pink pool, comfy sun loungers, and a dining table—perfect for unwinding during your stay. The walls are painted in vibrant colours, and there are fairy lights twinkling in the evening, giving it such a magical vibe. I absolutely adored hanging out here; you’d never believe you were smack dab in the middle of the city!

The apartments also have laundry facilities and a full sized refrigerator (all other rooms have a mini refrigerator). They also have hair driers and irons and ironing boards upon request.
Service
The service at Wynwood Boutique Hotel was excellent, with a novel self service approach. The communication before and during our stay made us feel incredibly well taken care of, and I was confident that reaching out to a staff member, even outside of office hours, would be hassle-free. Plus, all the staff we met in person were incredibly friendly and helpful, going out of their way to ensure our stay was enjoyable.

Closing Remarks
Our time at Wynwood Hotel was just what the doctor ordered—fantastic location, gorgeously decorated rooms, and a delightful hidden pool oasis out back. Plus, the rooms were stocked with everything you could possibly need for a great stay. With plenty of bars and restaurants nearby, and the convenience of virtual keys and QR codes for ordering drinks, it was the ultimate setup for a memorable getaway.
