The Retreat – Hotel Review, Turks and Caicos

Newly opened at the beginning of October 2026, this stunning boutique hotel is the hidden gem Grace Bay didn’t know it needed. Featuring just 24 modern rooms and suites, a glistening pool and hot tub set in a lush tropical courtyard, service that easily rivals most five star resorts, and a location just a ten minute stroll from one of the best beaches in the world, you will quickly find out why it is so impossibly hard to leave.

Location and How To Get There

The Retreat is located on the idyllic island of Providenciales, or “Provo” as it is affectionately known, in the Turks and Caicos islands. Thanks to its close ties and proximity to the United States, getting here is remarkably easy. There are multiple daily flights to the US mainland across Delta, American, and United, alongside great options from JetBlue and Southwest. If you are travelling from Europe, your best bet is flying British Airways via Nassau or connecting through the US, and there are plenty of direct routes from Canada and neighboring Caribbean islands as well.

Once you touch down at the airport, you are a quick twenty minute drive from checking into your slice of paradise. For those already familiar with the island, the property sits just a couple of blocks northeast of the Seven Stars roundabout, perfectly situated halfway between The Ritz-Carlton and the Royal West Indies Resort.

Check-in Process

In the days leading up to my stay, the team reached out to coordinate an airport transfer, which made my arrival blissfully fast and seamless. If you do not arrange one beforehand, there is a well-managed taxi rank located immediately to your left as you exit arrivals. These run as shared shuttles charged per person, so be prepared for a couple of quick drop-offs along the way, but it is a reliable backup plan.

Renting a car is another great option, which I strongly encourage if it is your first time visiting because there is simply so much to discover across Provo. The Retreat offers free on-site parking, saving you from circling around looking for a spot. Keep in mind that as a British Overseas Territory, driving is on the left side of the road. Navigation is fairly simple since there are only a handful of main roads to remember, though if you are anything like me, you are still relying on GPS every single time you make a turn!

Pulling up to the property, I was greeted by the team members, who introduced themselves and made me feel like family within seconds. A chilled towel and a crisp glass of water were handed to me right away, which was pure heaven after a long day of flights.

Once the formalities were squared away, I was shown to my room alongside a quick orientation of the grounds. Stepping into the courtyard brought an immediate wave of calm. Towering palm trees and tropical greenery wrap around the space to create what feels like a secluded oasis. The glistening pool and hot tub were practically begging me to jump in, but after travelling for almost 24 hours, the plush bed won that battle. If you are anything like me and love the sound of palms swaying in the breeze, which I recently learned is officially called psithurism, (and yes, I am available for your next trivia night) , you will fall head over heels for this spot.

Rooms

There are two primary room categories at The Retreat: Superior and Standard. The main distinction is that Superior rooms sit on the upper level with elevated private balconies, while Standard rooms occupy the ground floor, offering direct walk-out access to the pool and courtyard on one side and a private patio on the other. Everything inside has been meticulously planned, not just for aesthetics, but for genuine functionality, a concept that seems lost on most modern resorts.

The overall look is minimalist, sleek, and modern, anchored by a massive, plush bed facing a large smart TV loaded with all the major streaming apps so you never fall behind on your favourite shows. Beside the bed, floating nightstands feature built-in outlets, which was an instant highlight for me. I could charge my phone right beside the pillows and tuck my book neatly underneath, completely avoiding any bulky furniture to stub my toes on during midnight trips to the bathroom.

The practical touches continue with a fully equipped mini kitchenette featuring a mini-fridge, microwave, Keurig coffee maker, and all the essential glassware and cutlery. Having this setup came in clutch when I brought lunch leftovers back, letting me reheat them and enjoy a late-night feast in bed while streaming a movie.

The biggest game changer, however, was having a compact washer and dryer unit right inside the room. This allowed me to wash everything before flying home, instantly wiping out the most dreaded chore on my post-vacation to-do list. It also means you can easily travel lighter, skipping the urge to pack your entire wardrobe along with the customary eight hundred pairs of backup underwear we all pretend we need.

The bathroom carries that same intentional design, fitted with a generous rainfall shower, double vanities, backlit touch mirrors with a built-in defogging feature, and dedicated dark makeup towels.

Two final features deserve special appreciation. First, the doors use custom keypad entry codes instead of physical cards. If you have ever travelled with me, you know locking myself out or demagnetizing keycards at the beach is practically my signature move, so punching in a code was an actual game changer. That same code also unlocks the fitness center. Second, the soundproofing is astonishing. One evening a massive storm rolled across Provo, and I had no idea the thunder was booming until I stepped outside onto the balcony. Speaking of the balcony, it comes covered and furnished with comfortable seating, a table, and a dedicated outdoor power outlet, meaning you can easily charge your devices and get work done in the open air.

Food and Drink

While there is no formal on-site restaurant at The Retreat, they serve a wonderful continental breakfast featuring a tiered tower of fresh pastries and morning treats, paired with orange juice and your choice of coffee or tea. Because I visited right after their grand opening during a quieter period, I had the luxury of having breakfast delivered straight to my door. Naturally, I devoured it in bed, because if that is not the ultimate way to kick off a vacation morning, I honestly do not know what is. As occupancy picks up, I believe breakfast will transition to a dedicated station set up by the poolside gazebo.

If you are craving a heartier hot breakfast or looking for dinner options, several incredible dining spots sit just steps away. Trattoria Isolana is just next door, open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and was so good I ended up eating there three separate times during my stay.

A few more of my personal favourites within easy walking distance include Coco Bistro, which is just a four minute stroll away, and its playful sister spot Cocovan, serving elevated street food out of a vintage Airstream trailer where the tacos are a non-negotiable must-order. Pelican Bay Restaurant, located on the grounds of the Royal West Indies Resort, is also right around the corner, making it the perfect post-beach stop to catch their daily happy hour from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.

Facilities

While the pool and hot tub easily take center stage on the property, the dedicated daily beach setup on Grace Bay might just be the best perk of all. Every morning, the staff arrange sun umbrellas and some of the most comfortable loungers I have ever melted into. Getting down to the shoreline is an easy ten minute stroll, or for the ultimate low-effort luxury, a quick two minute hop in the property golf cart where an attendant is already waiting to greet you with plush towels and ice-cold water. If you have never laid eyes on Grace Bay, prepare to be completely blown away. I have visited countless times, yet that electric blue water and soft powdery white sand still leave me speechless, and I like to think I have been chasing beaches since I could walk.

For exploring the area at your own pace, the hotel also provides complimentary cruiser bikes, which are perfect for popping over to nearby lunch spots or pedaling around the neighborhood.

Back on-site, there is a compact, high-spec fitness room, an unexpected luxury for a boutique stay of only twenty-four rooms. It is fully outfitted with top-of-the-line cardio gear including a treadmill and stationary bike, alongside a versatile multi-function cable press rack, free weights, kettlebells, yoga mats, and a fresh supply of towels and chilled water.

Before you leave, make sure to pop into the charming little boutique shop near reception. It is stocked with snacks, custom Retreat merch, and locally crafted artisan souvenirs. Consider yourself warned: once you catch the signature scent wafting through the property, you will definitely want to buy a candle or home fragrannce to instantly transport yourself back to island time whenever you are home.

Activities

If you can tear yourself away from Grace Bay Beach or the poolside loungers, the concierge team is always on hand to suggest local excursions and handle every detail of the booking and logistics so you simply have to show up. Upon arrival, I was handed the direct WhatsApp number for the front desk, making it ridiculously easy to text them anytime with questions, requests, or last-minute ideas.

Service

I truly cannot put into words just how genuinely welcomed I felt. Within twenty-four hours, the entire team knew me by name and were eager to hear how my daily adventures went or share their own favourite local recommendations. Every single person seemed truly passionate about their work, always greeting me with an authentic smile. It is a level of personal care that easily outshines the service at many ultra-luxury resorts I have stayed at, and I do not say that lightly. In fact, the genuine enthusiasm I encountered from check-in onward has probably ruined standard hotel welcomes for me forever. Departure day was met with that exact same warmth, with several team members coming by to wish me safe travels. It is precisely these lasting impressions that make you want to return to a place, something I rarely do as a travel writer, yet I would rebook The Retreat in a heartbeat.

Closing Thoughts

While this was my fourth trip to Turks and Caicos, I am pretty sure I left a piece of my heart, along with my new island family, at The Retreat. From the exceptionally well-designed rooms to the peaceful courtyard pool and dreamlike beach setup, this boutique haven gets every single detail right. On an island filled with massive properties, I strongly encourage you to choose the warmth of intimate, personal hospitality over the anonymity of a sprawling mega-resort. I am already plotting my return to my new home away from home. Until next time, Retreat family. X
