Since the start of the pandemic and the emphasis on staycations, I have travelled extensively throughout our home state of Oklahoma, fur kids in tow and devised a list of my top 3 vacation rentals.
This budget friendly lakefront cabin is one of three situated right by the water and with complimentary paddle boats to use, it’s the perfect getaway to bring the pups. There is a lake and smaller pond on the property that guests are welcome to enjoy. We took fishing gear with us and caught some sizeable bass and bluegill from the shore and from the paddle boat. This cabin in particular has a fantastic outdoor area with a propane grill and bar seating. We spent many an hour perched here watching the wildlife over the lake as the sun set. There are fairy lights that come on at night that make the cabin even more magical. There is no wifi or cable television, but that is part of the charm. There is a TV with DVD player and they have a selection of films for you to choose. We brought a couple ourselves which made for a great movie night after a day on the lake. We made most of our meals at the cabin, primarily using the outdoor grill but we did head into town one lunchtime to try out the local gastronomy. We visited a small Mexican restaurant on the main street in Antlers called Marcos which was really fantastic, and for such an affordable price too.

There is also a fabulous swinging ranch chair on the porch, which our fur children were obsessed with. Our little pug mix spent all day snoozing on it (when she wasn’t out chasing fireflies!). There is no pet fee for any of the cabins, however you must notify the hosts if you plan on bringing them, keep them on a leash at all times outside due to the horses and livestock around the property; and not leave them unattended in the cabin.

This gem of a rental is situated on a 330 acre ranch, directly by the shared swimming pool and hot tub which are for guests to use. The owner, Rob and his wife are fantastic hosts, very hospitable and extremely accommodating. We originally booked this suite for the fishing opportunities and it did not disappoint. With multiple stocked ponds to explore, my husband was in fishing heaven! In the early morning and late evening we landed multiple 8lb large mouth bass, 22-24 inches in length. The host was kind enough to loan us the use of his ATV which we used to explore the property.

The suite has everything you could need for a short getaway. There is a microwave, miniature refrigerator and coffee making equipment plus an oversized grill by the pool that guests are welcome to use. There is a television, full bathroom and couch, making for a very comfortable stay. The main house was built by the host, and it really is something that to be marvelled at, and if you get the chance, ask Rob about the story of how it was built, it really is a work of art! There is also another rental on the property that is situated further from the main house and in one of the fields, perfect for the off the grid experience away from technology!

This spacious cabin is situated on an oversized private pond, complete with wrap-around porch and a dock overhanging the water. The rental has two bedrooms, one and a half bathrooms, a large sitting room and separate kitchen, all of which are thoughtfully adorned in equestrian and western decor; the shoulder mount taxidermy pieces in the main living room were of particular interest and really stole the show!

One unique aspect of this property is the sound system that is installed in the house. There are outdoor speakers all synced with the stereo system inside, in which you can play the radio, CDs and have access to 37000 + music selection. It was incredibly convenient to have all our songs playing outside while we were fishing, BBQing, and just enjoying the outdoors without having to worry about bringing a bluetooth speaker, etc. There is no television or wifi here but that is part of the adventure, and we really enjoyed disconnecting from the world for a few days. There is an outdoor grill and fire pit that we used a couple of times to cook steaks and other treats for dinner. There is also a full kitchen in case al fresco dining is not on the cards!

But the shining aspect of this place is the vastness of the property and the 16 other ponds that are available for guests to enjoy; being an avid fisherwoman, I made sure to try out many of the nearby ponds and caught some great-sized fish, including the largest crappie I have ever seen! The owner was generous enough to give us a tour of his property on his ATV and I really was blown away at how extensive the property was and to what a unique location it was situated in. Guests are welcome to bring their own four wheeler to explore the various pastures and trails, which would make for a fun-filled adventure. Pets are welcome for a $25 fee. In addition, there are horse stalls available if you want to bring your noble steed! To reserve the ranch house, CLICK HERE.

There is also another rental on the grounds, “The Redwood Cabin”, a short distance away which houses up to another four adults, and would be a great addition if you wanted to bring a large group or family for the weekend. CLICK HERE for the Redwood Cabin.
